Luxembourg/Oberursel, 16 November 2012 – The Monier Group, one of the world’s leading suppliers of building materials for pitched roofs, is underlining its commitment to offering energy-efficient roofing solutions and has equipped Sweden’s first single-family house that was certified according to passive house standards with a PV system and other roof products. The building is also one of the country’s first houses in general that received the official passive house certification. The “Villa Björken” is situated in Upplands Väsby north of Stockholm and was built and developed by Fiskarhedenvillan, one of Sweden’s leading house building companies.

The house was designed by Hans Eek, an award-winning architect in the area of passive house projects. Monier has contributed to the project with its extensive knowledge around pitched roofs that also focuses on the interface of solar systems to the roof. The installed PV system will supply enough energy to cover the entire demand of the house. In addition, the house was roofed with Turmalin, a modern looking plain clay tile matching the villa’s contemporary architecture, as well as fittings, fixings and roof safety products from Monier. “Energy efficiency is an important topic for the Monier Group. This project in Sweden shows that the roof plays a significant part in this and we are proud to have been chosen as a partner providing a complete roof system“, says Pepyn Dinandt, CEO of the Monier Group.

Monier and Fiskarhedenvillan have already worked together on a number of traditional housing projects in Sweden and aim at increasing their cooperation for passive houses such as “Villa Björken”. “It becomes more and more important for us to offer our customers not only aesthetics and functionality but also energy-efficient solutions for their house. Monier with its solar systems and other roof products has proven to be a valuable partner in creating this offer“, says Gunnar Jönsson, Managing Director at Fiskarhedenvillan.

Monier Group involved in other energy-efficient projects in Europe and Asia
Monier Braas, which is also part of the Monier Group, had recently been selected as one of the industry partners in the House of the Future competition by RWE Effizienz, Vivawest and Bayer MaterialScience that is part of the conversion of Bottrop in Germany into a model city for climate protection. Monier Braas will provide its state-of-the-art InDaX in-roof PV system for the RWE House of the Future which was built in the 1960s and as part of the project will undergo comprehensive energy-efficient renovations that were already kicked off in October this year. This house as well will be renovated to meet the passive house standards.
